A word from George Payne:I have been a butcher for 40 years now and can't recall wanting to do anything else for a living (apart from polishing Marilyn Monroe's ukulele in Some Like it Hot). Our listing in Rick Stein's Food Heroes comes about because of the quality of the meat we sell. It is fully-flavoured and suitability impressive no matter what the occasion. I try to buy as much of the meat I sell from the county of Northumberland and have only one supplier for beef and one for pork. Currently we have 3 lamb suppliers to achieve better continuity of supply. The business remains committed to putting the taste back into food. I like to think that I have created a village shop in the city. The shop has been likened by many people to the rural butchers in France and Holland. Thank You George |
